The Government of Bihar, on September 17, 2026, issued the Bihar Sugar Undertaking (Acquisition) Amendment Act, 2026, to further amend the Bihar Sugar Undertaking (Acquisition) Act, 1985, to expand the entities in which the rights, titles and interests of a sugar undertaking may be vested, subject to conditions imposed by the State Government.
The following has been provided:
The amendment substitutes Section 3(2) of the 1985 Act. Where the State Government is satisfied that a corporation, State-funded institution, cooperative society, another department, private sector company or other institution is willing to comply with, or has complied with, prescribed terms and conditions, it may direct through a written order that the rights, titles and interests vest in such specified entity instead of the State Government.
Such vesting may take effect either from the date of publication of the direction or from the appointed day, as specified, provided the appointed day is not earlier than the appointed date.
The Act extends to the whole of Bihar and comes into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
